Sunday rates are setting
The Fair Work Commission has decided that Sunday rates will be settling down and turned to dusk. Weekend penalty rates will be reduced from 50% to 25%, the Sunday penalty will now be the same rate as Saturdays. The change will benefit employers who will now be able to afford to open for trade on Sundays. Australia will also experience benefits in employment figures. Restaurant and catering businesses in this case will experience significant positive impacts.
Not everybody is happy about the change and most rejected the claim that working on a Saturday was the same as working on a Sunday. It is suggested that employers from other industries may, as a result, may request to have their Sunday rate reduced in their applicable modern award.
