Recently, the Fair Work Ombudsman audited Alice Springs businesses, focusing on retail and hospitality in and around the CBD.
They found 60 per cent of businesses audited in Alice Springs are not compliant with workplace laws. Additionally, more than 200 workers have been underpaid tens of thousands of dollars.
Natalie James from the Fair Work Ombudsman said the result shows a need for Alice Springs employers to pay greater attention to their obligations under workplace laws, particularly wage rates.
“We know workplace laws can be complicated for the uninitiated, and for those who are not industrial relations experts, the margin for error is high,” she said.
