The Fair Work Commission has issued changes to the Pastoral Award 2010, which will take effect from the start of the first full pay period starting on or after 1 January 2018.
What are the changes?
This update is in relation to junior employees that are school students and who are engaged to perform the work of a dairy operator. The minimum engagement period for these employees has been reduced to two hours. In order for this reduced minimum engagement period to apply, the employee must be:
- engaged to perform the work of a dairy operator;
- aged 18 years or younger; and
- a full-time secondary school student.
Practically speaking, this means that every time an employee who meets all of the above criteria is required to attend for work, they are entitled to a minimum payment of two hours’ work.
What do employers do now?
The changes take effect from the start of the first full pay period starting on or after 1 January 2018.
