UnderpaymentsOctober 29, 2013
An emergency aged-care facility in Sydney will face court for multiple breaches of workplace law, following a Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) investigation. The facility underpaid two employees a total of $84,450.
Both employees migrated to Australia shortly before commencing casual work with the aged-care facility. One spoke limited English. Their wages did not meet the minimum hourly rate, casual loadings or sleepover allowance.
Underpayment of foreign workers is a common issue faced by the FWO as some employers exploit these people as they tend to be more vulnerable.
