The former owner of a restaurant in Perth has been fined more than $42,000 for deliberately underpaying two migrant workers almost $80,000.
The two underpaid employees worked in the restaurant’s kitchen and were paid less than $10 an hour. This resulted in the underpayment of $78,054 between March, 2006 and December, 2007.
Perth businessman Vincenzo Salvatore Todaro, who formerly owned the restaurant, has been fined a total of $42,240 following legal action.
Todaro has been ordered to pay the penalty to his two former staff to partially rectify the underpayments.
