RecruitmentJuly 30, 2014
The Federal Government has announced a significant change to be put in place on July 1 2015. Australians on the dole will have to apply for 40 jobs or more a month and perform 25 hours of community service in order to receive government handouts.
Whilst the community service seems a grand idea the steep amount of job applications will see small businesses in Australia inundated with people applying for jobs who may not necessarily want them. The time and effort sifting through applicants and conducting interviews will place undue pressure on hiring managers. Companies will spend time and resources that could be better spent on other facets of the business instead they will be dealing with the brunt of Australia’s unemployment. It will also mean that job seekers who are genuinely passionate about a role could be overlooked and not given the time of day.
