UnderpaymentsDecember 15, 2013
A recent Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) campaign on pharmacies found that employees in the industry have been underpaid a total of $280,912.
As part of the campaign, 8,000 businesses received letters from the FWO and 523 were audited.
While a decent number of employers in the industry seem to be complying with workplace laws, a number of employers need to ensure they are meeting their obligations when it comes to staff.
The primary non-compliance issue was employers that underpaid penalty rates, casual loading and staff uniform allowances. Other common issues included failing to include sufficient detail on pay slips, not keeping accurate records of hours worked by staff and failure to provide minimum shift hours.
