A temporary wall, used to cover a shop fit out, has collapsed in a Melbourne shopping centre injuring several shoppers. It has been released that heavy winds could have been the reason behind the collapse of the wooden structure that fell onto at least 6 shoppers.
An ambulance officer confirmed that two people were sent to hospital with head and shoulder injuries after the wooden cladding struck them. All injured remain in a stable condition. Two cars that were being used in a shopping centre promotion were also damaged.
WorkSafe investigator Peter Flaherty confirmed the workplace insurer was investigating the incident, but would not comment on the likely cause. This example is proof that accidents can occur at anytime without warning with potentially serious implications.
