Maternity Leave

Published December 07, 2018 Author: servian

(also known as parental leave) is a period of leave, which is taken when a child is born or adopted. Eligible employees are entitled to 12 months of unpaid parental leave. They can also request an additional 12 months of leave (which can only be refused on reasonable business grounds).

Employees are entitled to take parental leave if they have worked for their employer for at least 12 months prior to the date or expected date of birth, before the date of adoption, or when the leave starts (eg. if the leave is taken after another person cares for the child or takes parental leave) and that person will have responsibility for care of a child.
