Data from Employsure’s dedicated employer Advice Line has revealed new trends in the HR issues hospitality and tourism industries as Australia starts to open up.

The employer Advice Line took 29,000 calls in November from a client base of 30,000 businesses. The latest data from the Advice Line has revealed the following emerging trends:

  • Bullying and harassment advice calls surged 775% in November over October as small businesses face challenges around staff being exposed to threatening situations regarding vaccinations and mandates.
  • Concerns on how to manage employee performance, including discipline, are the highest they’ve been all year.
  • Questions regarding Wages and Awards increased by 46% as more businesses open up and hire Christmas casuals.

Commenting on the increase in bullying and harassment, Employsure Business Partner Emma Dawson said, “Hospitality businesses and the young employees in the firing line are bearing the brunt of abuse surrounding vaccinations and QR code check-ins. We’ve been advising our affected clients to be proactive and ensure the correct control measures are implemented to minimise the risk of physical and psychological harm in their workplace.”
