Welcome to the Workplace Safety Index, key highlights from our latest research exploring the workplace health and safety challenges facing Australia’s small and medium-sized businesses.
Overall, research showed a huge knowledge gap in the area of workplace health and safety, with less than 20% of employers confident they had a firm understanding of their obligations.
Knowledge of industry standards and increased documentation were the two key areas employers felt needed improvement, while complexity of regulations was named as the top issue holding employers back.
Another area of concern was injury in the workplace. Research found that less than 60% of business owners knew their responsibilities should an employee get injured at work and with one third relying on Google for information rather than official sources, there is clearly a knowledge gap that needs to be addressed.
