The owner of restaurant My Favourite Italian, located in NSW’s Central Coast, allegedly owes nine employees an accumulative total of $12,178. After failing to back pay this amount, restaurant Renee Martin has been summoned to court by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Ms Martin failed to meet basic National Employment Standards, such as the provision of a minimum wage and supplying penalty rates when appropriate. She also allegedly failed to comply with requests to provide Fair Work Inspectors with the appropriate employment records during the initial investigation.
Ms Martin’s actions could prove to be quite costly; not only will she be expected to back pay her employees but she could face fines between $5,100 and $6,600, plus her restaurant could be expected to pay between $25,500 and $33,000.
