The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has announced a 5.2% a week increase to the National Minimum Wage (NMW). The change will begin on the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2022. The National Minimum Wage applies to employees not covered by an award or registered agreement. This is the minimum pay rate provided by the Fair Work Act 2009 and is reviewed each year. The new National Minimum Wage will be $812.60 per week or $21.38 per hour, reflecting the minimum wage increase.

FWC also announced that award minimum wages will increase by 4.6% or $40 whichever is higher, based on a 38-hour week for a full-time employee.

What can you do?

The FWC will issue draft determinations and orders about how their decision affects awards.
