In just seven short years, Employsure has challenged, transformed, and reshaped the legal industry and supports over 21,000 small businesses across Australia and New Zealand. To achieve this in such a short period, Head of Talent, Michael Morris says, “Creating better businesses for clients, starts with our own. We have challenged the status quo and have built a culture where we empower our people to do the same. Our people want more than a job and want to be part of something bigger, envisioning a different future for workplaces.”
“Our people are the engine room of Employsure. Our work takes a unique blend of commitment, adaptability, and honesty. We like to think we’re a rare breed: solving unique and evolving business problems, making the world of complex workplace laws easy to understand and apply, and giving clients peace of mind and treating them as king.”
With an overall engagement score across ANZ of 86%, putting Employsure in the top percentile over 160 companies that took part, Michael shares the ingredients to becoming an employer of choice:
Create a positive candidate experience: “Ensure your selection process is engaging, thorough and fit for purpose. Over the last 12 months, we have on-boarded people every second Tuesday without fail (except Christmas). We kick start induction on a Tuesday as we like to give all our new starters a long weekend before they start, that way they are refreshed for the start of their Employsure journey. Our aim is that at the end of week one, new starters have the confidence and resources they need to be successful in their role. We have a strong track record of great feedback for induction, highlighting its success for helping new starters integrate effortlessly.”
Put organisation values at the heart of your offering: “Candidates are increasingly becoming attracted by an organisation’s culture and values, so ensuring that your values are clearly communicated and shown to be at the centre of your employee and customer experience will likely reap benefits. We help employees see the impact their work has for clients and their business. We don’t just put them on the wall and forget about them, we live and breathe our values and behaviours every single day, so much so that our salary growth and bonus payments are largely tied to an individual’s values more so than their capability. We believe that culture is a manifestation of values and behaviours; you can’t just create culture with bean bags and a table tennis table!”
Focus on career growth opportunities: “Career development and growth opportunities matter to candidates and employees alike; so being in one of the fastest growing companies in APAC enables us to offer these aplenty. There are countless ways we develop our people with opportunities for cross-function working, working on special projects, short or longer-term secondments, geographical relocations and internal training schemes. We also run a Future Leaders Program with a cohort of 20-25 employees. Those who wish to become a future leader at Employsure can apply for the program designed to train, develop and coach individuals in line with the Employsure leadership ethos.”
Thank your employees: “Build a unique approach to rewards and benefits to increase your appeal to new joiners and employees. We’ve developed an award-winning program called the Ambassador’s Club – recognising those people who have been with the company for two years, made a significant contribution to the overall culture, growth and progression of the company. Ambassadors receive unlock additional benefits such as additional annual leave, funds towards further education, funds to spend on their family and home to name a few.”
Create a unique employee experience: “Develop distinctive ways to help employees balance their work lives with their personal and family life. At Employsure we call it the Enhanced Employee Experience. We know that our people are committed to Employsure and work hard so we wanted to provide them exceptional service in return. Our experience team is like a concierge at a 6-Star hotel, anything that our people could need from dry cleaning to postage through to trivial errands like shoe shining and spare toiletries we take care of, so our people can come to work every day and be their best.”
