Hi, I'm Jennifer Foster,
one of your Health and Safety Advisers
here at Employsure.
Being prepared for hazardous weather
or a natural disaster
is not only good business,
but it also can mean the difference
between shutting down
for a few days or never reopening again.
Businesses are obliged
under health and safety laws
to have measures in place
to manage the risks to heath and safety
caused by hazardous weather conditions.
This can include:
Extreme heat above 35 degrees,
damaging storms
with lightning
and high winds,
heavy rains,
which can cause flooding,
property damage and road closures
which interrupts business activities.
Prepare an emergency plan
specific to your business
in consultation
with your local emergency services
and your workers.
Keep in mind,
workers may need
certain arrangements in place
to get to their children in an emergency.
Ensure you have effective ways
to communicate with your workers.
A satellite phone
or an emergency app
installed on a smartphone
can help mobile or
isolated workers
contact emergency services.
