Hi, I'm Jude,
the Associate Director of Health and Safety
here at Employsure.
Working from home
has become increasingly common
thanks to the pandemic
and emerging technologies.
More and more businesses
are adapting to hybrid working
as a popular arrangement
for their employees.
Did you know that as an employer,
you have a legal responsibility
to protect the health, safety
and welfare of your employees and others
when they work from home?
While hybrid work creates
more opportunities
for employees, it also presents
new challenges for employers.
So what are the things you need to do
before an employee can work from home?
Carry out a risk
assessment of their home office
to see if there are any potential hazards
or safety risks,
such as trailing power cords,
or computer cables.
Use an ergonomic checklist
to see whether their workstation
is ergonomically sound
or set up appropriately.
This includes
assessing the Homeworker’s chair,
desk and keyboard
as well as the office space.
Assess your employees mental
well-being and set up strategies
to protect the boundaries
of home/work life
It is important for you as a
business to remember that health
and safety of a modern hybrid workplace
relies on comprehensive
risk management policies and systems.
The policy should list
all requirements
and steps to follow for employees
and employers.
